The scratch section won by 8 points to 4 points. Our winning players were Josh Thompson 2&1, Tom Lee 4&2, Paul McGrath 3&1 and Taylor Briggs, who produced the performance of the night, coming back from 5 down to win on the last hole 1up. Well done Taylor! Our losing players were Andy Hood playing against a 0.4 handicap (playing off 0 at Billingham), losing on the last hole, and Jacob Brown playing against Durham County player Callum Moncur (playing off +1.8 and +2 at Billingham) losing 2&1. Both these players played some great golf and should be proud as myself and Neil were of their performances.
In the handicap section we won by 12 points to 0 points. An absolutely fantastic performance to do the clean sweep as this is very rare. Our winning players were Graeme Speight 5&4, Marc Symington 6&5, Daniel Spence 4&2, Darren Hurst 3&2, Dave McGreal 3&2 and finally a great win by Will Bellerby 7&6. Well played by everyone!
The final result being Billingham 20 points, Darlington 4 points. Congratulations to everyone, a great performance by all of you.
Can I say on behalf of Neil and I, a fantastic performance and can not praise you all enough your commitment every week. Your team spirit is outstanding, everyone of you cheering each other on. Makes us, looking after this great set of lads, very proud!
Now for some thank you’s to all our fantastic supporters, starting with our Vice-Captain Albert Spence, our team players who couldn’t play but still turned up - Phil Earl, Craig Ewen, Phil Chadwick, Ash McGrath and Liam Butler and not forgetting his dog. Now a thank you to our caddies, Colin Spence looking after the bag for his son Daniel, Steve Lowth for caddying for Will Bellerby and a big thank you to Craig Ewen for going around with Jacob Brown. Now our thanks to the following, Stew Openshaw, Terry Buckley, Dave McNeill, Mike Lee who also walked around with Tom Lee and also Terry Conlon who cut short his date night with the wife to watch the team play. Finally to our resident OAP’s Robert Scotson Smith and his co-pilot Howard Gill who keep us well informed of how the lads are doing. If I have missed anybody I apologise now.
A big thank you to Beth and her magnificent team of staff, starting with Hollie, Kasey, Katy, Archie who looked after every hungry and thirsty player and managers. The options were fantastic and yes Suzannah the home made lasagna was magnificent - a big thank you for that. But not forgetting the Parmo’s and the Chicken Tikka Masala and the special request for a Darlington player of a ham baguette with chips! Every person said it was excellent, well done to every member of staff, it is much appreciated.
Last but not least, a big thank you to John Dales and his greens staff. The course was excellently presented and the greens were great considering how little rain we have had. Well done, and the course received great compliments from both sets of players and officials.
Our next fixture is a trip away to Hunley Hall Golf Club on Wednesday 16 July 2025.
Neil and I will be looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible making the journey and keep our magnificent record of having more supporters than the home team. Please remember, as I say it has to be better than watching soaps and just for you Hollie, if you wish to stay at home and watch the Ladies football on TV, your choice but I know where I would rather be ha ha and it’s not watching TV !!!
With Thanks.
