The Captain's Charity Day
Jasper, Professor Nicol and The Captain
The 2024 Captain’s Charity Day was played on Friday, in what could only be described as “challenging” conditions. Perpetual rain tried its hardest, but failed, to dampen the spirits of the 100 or so taking part in the day. Thanks to you all for contributing to another fantastic day here at The Richmond Golf Club with a record breaking amount raised!

AGM Frankie O’Donnell and Member for Social, Gary Norman, were out and about on the course with cold beers - probably a little less demand than previous years

This year’s captain Ian Gibb’s chosen charity is The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which is very close to his heart. The Captain’s son, Jasper, went though a very long and involved treatment at the Royal Marsden which was told to the room, in an emotional speech from the Captain.

Here are his closing words before the closing picture with Jasper and the surgeon, Professor Nicol, who saved his life

Many thanks to all those who bid, donated items, set themself up for fines. A special mention to our very own Nicky who, in offering to have his ponytail chopped off live, raised a couple of thousand for that event in itself.

He is donating the cut hair to Wigs for Kids.

On to the wet golf played and some prizes won. In keeping with tradition these are coming in reverse order with 5th place going to the Captains team of himself, Bryan Thomson, Steve Burridge and Andy Reeve

In 4th place were Old Dogs III. Phil Allington, Paul Renucci, Vern Radwell and Max Rayner

In third place Dawn Patrol - Chris Leggett, Grahame Falconer, Simon Kimble & Graham Juber

Runners up were The Pink Flamingos David (where’s my phone?) Murray, David McGloughlin, Roy Wylie & Tony Venn

This years winners with a “our Pro’s better that your Pro” jibe to the TPHS Lions were Old Dogs I

Buster White, Simon Taylor, Karl Hayler & Phil Glenister (absent due to call from agent!)

A big thank you to Simon for all his contribution as ever!

In addition to this there were nearest the pin prizes for Phil Allington, Mike Pearson, Max Rayner, Karl Hayler, Luke Hudson and Bryan Thomson. Pictures of these and all others may be found in the 2024 Captains Charity Day folder in Club Documents, on ClubV1.
