From Wednesday (8th May 2024) when the course shortens for the open. The stroke index at the first and eighteenth will swap round until the course reverts back its full length.
1st will now be 12
18th will now be 7
These will not be changing on any scorecards so it is up to the competitors to remember this change.
You will only need to remember for matchplay games if any strokes are given up to these numbers.
The computer will do everything else for any strokeplay events.
Some of you may also have noticed that your handicap index has changed slightly.
The reason for this is due to the way the WHS now calculates 9 hole scores.
I wasn’t aware they were going back and updating previous scores, I thought they were only doing it for future scores.
